Abstract
The present invention relates to a multiple-pulses-in-air (MPiA) laser scanning system configured for measuring the time-of-flight of laser pulses, wherein the computing unit is configured for triggering the transmitter to transmit the send pulses with a varying pulse frequency, wherein the transmitter is configured to have a dead mode, wherein in the dead mode an increase in pulse frequency is effected, wherein in the course of increasing the pulse frequency, a reduction in pulse energy per individual send pulse of the send pulses is provided such that the pulse energy of the resulting return pulses is reduced such that it is below a detection threshold, and a measurement mode, wherein in the measurement mode a reduction in pulse frequency compared to the dead mode is effected, wherein in the course of reducing the pulse frequency, an increase in pulse energy per individual send pulse of the send pulses is provided such that the pulse energy of the resulting return pulses is increased such that it is above the detection threshold, wherein temporarily send pulses are transmitted in the dead mode, in the following called dead pulses 20, between send pulses transmitted in the measurement mode, in the following called measurement pulses 21, such that between the measurement pulses 21 occurrence of an MPiA ambiguity is prevented without temporarily stopping the transmission of send pulses by the transmitter.
