Abstract

This application provides a data backup method, an electronic device, a storage medium, and a chip, and relates to the field of data backup technologies. According to the method, in a current backup, a file list in a previous backup is obtained, the local file list in the previous backup is compared with a local file list in the current backup, to find an added file and a modified file, the added file and the modified file are uploaded to a cloud server for backup, and an identical file is not repeatedly uploaded to the cloud server for backup. When the added file and the modified file are backed up, different processing manners may be used for a regular file, a small file, and a large file: A modified large file is split into a plurality of data chunks, those differential data chunks are backed up, and same data chunks are no longer backed up. Small files are uploaded through packaging. If a reuse rate of files in one package is greater than 90%, backup is not needed; and if the reuse rate is less than 90%, uploading is performed through repackaging. This method can reduce backup time and improve backup efficiency.
