Abstract

An optical fiber protective unit (20) and a method for protecting an optical fiber are provided. The optical fiber protective unit (20) comprises: a reticulated tube (10) having peripheral parts (10B) forming openings (10A); and a tubular member (22) inserted through the reticulated tube (10), the tubular member (22) being configured to permit insertion of a plurality of optical fibers (5) therethrough. The reticulated tube (10) is disposed on an outer periphery of the tubular member (22) while being folded in a longitudinal direction by bending the peripheral parts (10B). Both end parts of the reticulated tube (10) are located on the outer periphery of the tubular member (22). The reticulated tube (10) in an extended state is longer than the tubular member (22) .
