Abstract

A double-sided cutting insert for use in milling with quadratic basic shape and eight different working positions. The cutting insert (1) comprises a peripheral surface (10), which extends around the cutting insert between first and second major faces (2, 3) and has four main side faces (11a-11d). One main cutting edge and one surface-wiping cutting edge are formed at an intersection between each main side face and the first major face (2) and at an intersection between each main side face and the second major face (3). Each main side face comprises a planar side abutment surface (13, 14), which extends between two corner side faces (12) of the cutting insert, and two inclined clearance surfaces (40, 50, 60, 70) located along and on opposite sides of the side abutment surface (13, 14), each clearance surface being convexly curved as seen in any plane that is perpendicular to a centre axis (C) of the cutting insert and extends across any part of the clearance surface.
