Abstract
A catheter system (100) for treating a treatment site (106) within or adjacent to a vessel wall of a blood vessel (108) includes a catheter shaft (110) that extends into the blood vessel (108), the catheter shaft (110) including a shaft recess (1470, 1570, 1670, 1770); an energy guide (1422A, 1522A, 1622A, 1722A) that is configured to receive energy from an energy source (124) and guide the energy into the blood vessel (108); and a plasma generator (1433, 1533, 1633, 1733) that is positioned at a guide distal end (1422D, 1522D, 1622D, 1722D) of the energy guide (1422A, 1522A, 1622A, 1722A), the plasma generator being configured to generate the plasma in a fluid (1432, 1532, 1632, 1732) within the blood vessel (108); and wherein the energy guide is positioned such that the plasma generator is positioned substantially within the shaft recess (1470, 1570, 1670, 1770).
