Abstract

A surgical smart system may configure positioning and orientation of surgical instruments during surgical procedures by considering current and subsequent surgical steps. The system may include a processor configured to identify an active surgical step and a subsequent surgical step associated with a surgical instrument. The system may determine multiple possible positional configurations for the active step, assess the instrument's and patient's orientations, and calculate corresponding downstream configurations for the subsequent step. Based on the determination, the system may adjust the current configuration and select a suitable configuration for the active step.
