Abstract
The invention refers to a method of separating hydrogen from a gas comprising helium comprising receiving an input gas stream (I) comprising hydrogen and helium and forwarding the input gas stream (I) to at least one first membrane module (20) comprising at least one first hydrogen-selective membrane (28) for performing a first separation process for separating hydrogen, forwarding a first retentate (R1) from the at least one first membrane module (20) to at least one second membrane module (30) comprising at least one second hydrogen-selective membrane for performing a second separation process for separating hydrogen in the first retentate (R1), providing a hydrogen stream comprising the first permeate (P1) and the second permeate (P2) from the at least one second membrane module (30) and providing a helium stream comprising the second retentate (R2) from the at least one second membrane module (30). The invention further refers to a related method of extracting hydrogen and helium from a gas source and to a related membrane module system (10).
