Abstract

The present invention provides an engine in which a decompression mechanism is simplified. The engine 10 comprises: an engine block 11, a cylinder chamber 12 formed inside the engine block 11, and an extension space 33 formed inside the engine block 11 and extending laterally from the cylinder chamber 12. Furthermore, the engine 10 comprises: a decompression valve installation hole 22 formed in the engine block 11 in a portion forming the extension space 33, a decompression valve 23 arranged so as to be capable of advancing and retreating with respect to the decompression valve installation hole 22, and a decompression valve advancing/retreating mechanism 50 that causes the decompression valve 23 to perform an advancing/retreating operation.
