Abstract

A reciprocating compressor (1', 1", 1‴, 1"") comprising: a suction valve (110', 110", 110‴, 110A, 110B); a discharge valve (120', 120", 120‴, 120A); and a working chamber (251', 251", 251‴, 251A, 251B); wherein the suction valve (110', 110", 110‴, 110A, 110B ) is configured to provide fluid communication between a suction channel (40', 40", 40"', 40A, 40B) and the working chamber (251', 251", 251‴, 251A, 251B) and the discharge valve (120', 120", 120‴, 120A) is configured to provide fluid communication between the working chamber (251', 251", 251‴, 251A, 251B) and a discharge channel (50', 50", 50‴, 50A, 50B); characterized in that the suction valve (110', 110", 110‴, 110A, 110B ) comprises at least one non-self-actuated valve and the discharge valve (120', 120", 120‴, 120A) comprises at least one self-actuated check valve. The at least one non-self-actuated valve is actively driven such that the non-self-actuated valve does not open or close in response to fluid pressure in the compressor
