Abstract
A hybrid modular multilevel converter (1) is provided. After the voltage difference (ΔV) is added to the original voltage (V<sub>CHB,i</sub>) of each half-bridge submodule (311a, 321a, 331a, 312a, 322a, 332a) or the original voltage (V<sub>CFB,j</sub>) of each full-bridge submodule (311b, 321b, 331b, 312b, 322b, 332b), a compensation voltage (V' <sub>CHB,i</sub>) is obtained. According to a bridge arm current (i<sub>arm</sub>) and a voltage reference value (Varm*), signals of one type of submodules with the compensation voltage (V' <sub>CHB,i</sub>) and signals of the other type of submodules with the original voltages (V<sub>CHB,i</sub>, V<sub>CFB,j</sub>) are sorted. Consequently, an operating sequence of the plurality of half-bridge submodules (311a, 321a, 331a, 312a, 322a, 332a) and the plurality of full-bridge submodules (311b, 321b, 331b, 312b, 322b, 332b) is acquired. The operating modes of the half-bridge submodules (311a, 321a, 331a, 312a, 322a, 332a) and the full-bridge submodules (311b, 321b, 331b, 312b, 322b, 332b) are calculated according to the original voltages (V<sub>CHB,i</sub>) of the half-bridge submodules (311a, 321a, 331a, 312a, 322a, 332a), the original voltages (V<sub>CFB,j</sub>) of the full-bridge submodules (311b, 321b, 331b, 312b, 322b, 332b), the voltage reference value (Varm*) and the operating sequence. A corresponding driving signal is generated to control the half-bridge submodules (311a, 321a, 331a, 312a, 322a, 332a) and the full-bridge submodules (311b, 321b, 331b, 312b, 322b, 332b). Consequently, the voltage difference (ΔV) gradually approaches or equals to 0.
