Abstract
The invention relates to a method for selective separation of amphoteric species, in particular biomolecules or biomolecule complexes, e.g., vectors containing molecule, based on their isoelectric points. For selective separation, a charged porous surface is provided being electrically conductive and/or comprising an electrically conductive coating or layer. Fluid containing the amphoteric species is brought in contact with the surface, thereby absorbing species to the surface due to an attractive interaction force. Thereafter, at least parts of the adsorbed species are released by applying a release voltage chosen so that the net interaction force between the surface and adsorbed species is switched from attractive to repulsive. Selectivity is achieved by selective adsorption, thus at least one species being not absorbed, and/or selective desorption, thus selectively releasing some species previously adsorbed with others remaining bound to the surface, preferably selectively releasing solely one species of the previously adsorbed.
