Abstract

A medium transport device 1 includes a switching section 100 that switches a transport direction of a medium P in a transport path and a door section 17 that is configured to open and close with respect to an opening section 18, and that is configured to be displaced between a closed state in which the door section 17 covers the switching section 100 by closing the opening section 18 and an opened state in which the door section 17 exposes the switching section 100 as viewed from the opening section 18 by opening the opening section 18, wherein the switching section 100 is displaced to a switching position where the switching section 100 switches the transport direction of the medium P when the door section 17 is in the closed state, and is displaced to an opening position where the switching section 100 opens the transport path when the door section 17 is in the opened state and a through hole H is formed in the switching section 100.
