Abstract

A method for cleaning a component (202, 302, 702) of a gas turbine engine (200), the component (202, 302, 702) disposed within an engine core, the gas turbine engine (200) defining one or more access ports within the engine core, the method comprising subjecting the component (202, 302, 702) to two or more transient thermal cycles, wherein a surface temperature of the component (202, 302, 702) changes by at least 293 degrees kelvin (K) within a transient thermal cycle, and cleaning the component (202, 302, 702) to remove at least a portion of a contaminant deposit (204) from the component (202, 302, 702).
