Abstract
Disclosed is a two step process for preparing lithium fluoride, wherein in a first step lithium carbonate is converted to lithium bicarbonate using gaseous carbon dioxide and in a second step the lithium bicarbonate is converted to lithium fluoride using hydrogen fluoride, wherein the first step is carried out in a Buss loop reactor. The first step may be in batch or continuous mode; the second step is done in continuous mode. Improvements in the Buss loop reactor for performing the process are also disclosed.
