Abstract

The present invention relates to an indexable cutting insert for turning, a complementary tool holder and a tool comprising the cutting insert and the tool holder. The indexable cutting insert comprises: a two-fold rotational symmetry about an axis of symmetry; a top surface, wherein the top surface comprises a substantially rectangular basic shape with two longitudinal edges and two transverse edges, wherein the top surface comprises a first mounting surface and a second mounting surface spaced from the first mounting surface in a direction parallel to the longitudinal edges; a bottom surface, wherein the bottom surface comprises a first abutment surface, a bottom connecting surface and a second abutment surface, wherein the bottom connecting surface connects the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface, and wherein the second abutment surface is spaced from the first abutment surface in a direction parallel to the longitudinal edges, a side surface connecting the top surface and the bottom surface, wherein an intersection of the top surface and the side surface forms first and second cutting edges positioned along the transverse edges of the top surface. Each of the first and second abutment surfaces comprises a surface normal, which surface normal forms an angle of 5 degrees or more with the axis of symmetry such that the first and second abutment surfaces define a convex basic shape of the bottom surface, wherein the angle is measured in a cross-sectional plane parallel to the axis of symmetry and parallel to the longitudinal edges.
