Abstract
The invention relates to a transport aircraft 10 with a hybrid propulsion system 30. aircraft is capable of operating at typical jets altitudes (35,000 ft) and airspeeds (> 400 KTAS) with 40-50% lower energy than turbofan powered jets.The aircraft has a parallel hybrid propulsion system 30 with at least two or more propulsion sets 31 comprising• a swept wing 15 with a sweep angle α between 5° and 25°, a high aspect ratio AIR between 10 and 20 and a wing loading between 4.000 - 7.000 N/m<sup>2</sup>;• the propulsion set 31 comprises an internal combustion engine 35 coupled to an electric generator 342 and to a propulsor 33 either directly or via a gearbox 3) and an electric motor 34 coupled to the propulsor 3); either directly or via a gearbox 37;• the internal combustion engine 35 is a turbo-compound, a turbo-charged or super-charged combustion engine;• fuel tank system holding conventional Jet A fuel, SAF or hydrogen feeding the internal combustion engine 35• an electrical energy storage device 341 connected to the electric motor 34 and the generator 342, configured to provide power to the electric motor 34 and to the electric aircraft systems.
