Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing a textile material from a mycelium. The method comprises growing a filamentous fungus in submerged culture in a medium containing a fermentable carbon-rich feedstock to generate a mycelium biomass, recovering the mycelium biomass from the medium, mixing the mycelium biomass and a fiber to form a mycelium pulp, wherein a wet strength agent is mixed with the mycelium biomass and the fiber to form the mycelium pulp or wherein a wet strength agent is added to the mycelium pulp, dewatering and drying the mycelium pulp to form a mycelium sheet and impregnating the mycelium sheet with an oil to form the textile material,. The invention further provides a textile and/or leather-like material obtainable by the method of the invention, as well as uses thereof.
