Abstract

A sealing apparatus for sealing a gap between two members configured to rotate relative to each other about an axis includes a metal ring configured to be fixed to one member of the two members and having a shape of an annulus configured to be disposed around the axis, and an elastic body supported by the metal ring and having a shape of an annulus configured to be disposed around the axis, wherein the elastic body includes an annular base joined to the metal ring and a cylindrical side lip protruding from the base and configured to be in contact with another member of the two members, and wherein an outer peripheral surface of the side lip is provided with a plurality of ribs that are arranged spaced apart from each other in a direction of a circumference having a center configured to be disposed at the axis.
