Abstract
A computer-implemented method for estimating a Time of Arrival, ToA, or a distance between two wireless systems, based on a received signal communicated between the two wireless systems in a close-in multipath environment, wherein at least one signal is transmitted from a first of the wireless systems and signal resultants are received on a second of the wireless systems via different ports, the method comprising: obtaining a set of measurements on the signal resultants with respect to a timing reference; determining an aggregation-based metric based on an aggregation of the set of measurements; determining a selection-based metric based on a selection of a presumed earliest measurement among the set of measurements; and determining an overall ToA estimate or an overall distance estimate based on a combination of the aggregation-based metric and the selection-based metric.
