Abstract
Patch updates enable intra-patch reversion from an updated binary to an initial binary in the event of a catastrophic runtime error. This is advantageous in so far as it allows the OS to revert back to a stable configuration with respect to a problematic binary without disabling non-problematic binaries included in the patch update. This in-turn provides an efficient alternative to the conventional approach of wholesale reverting from a patch update to an initial patch update during fault recovery following a catastrophic runtime error (e.g., failure to boot, etc.).
