Abstract

The invention relates to a method of operating a photovoltaic system (10, 12, 14), comprising the following steps: - measuring a reference power signal of a reference photovoltaic system covered in snow, - dividing the measured reference power signal in time brackets, - for each time bracket, generating sample brackets, by constructing a chain sequence using Monte Carlo Markov Chain, wherein the constructed chain sequence follows at least one constraint of said time bracket if any, - defining a confidence interval from the generated sample signals generated from the sample brackets, - measuring a power signal of the operated photovoltaic system (10, 12, 14), - comparing the power signal to the confidence interval, - determining whether the photovoltaic system (10, 12, 14) was covered with snow.
