Abstract
A bitstream, an encoding apparatus and method for encoding the bitstream, and a decoding apparatus and method for decoding the bitstream. The bitstream comprises encoded 3D Gaussian splat data for one or more frames. The encoded 3D Gaussian splat data comprises at least one reference set of parameters for a reference frame representing a 3D scene at a first moment in time and at least one set of decoding instructions. Each set of decoding instructions describes a transformation to be applied to one of the at least one reference set of parameters. The at least one reference set of parameters and the at least one set of decoding instructions are decoded using at least one processing unit configured to perform serial processing. The transformation described by each set of decoding instructions is applied using massively parallel processing.
