Abstract

Embodiments of this application provide a communication method and system and a related device. The method includes: obtaining, by a terminal device, first information and sending a delay status report, where the first information is used to instruct to activate the delay status report; or obtaining, by the terminal device, second information, where the second information is used to instruct to deactivate the delay status report. In this way, the terminal device activates the delay status report, so that the terminal device can allocate a resource in time to transmit a remaining non-transmitted PDU in the PDU set, to avoid discarding of the entire PDU set due to packet loss, thereby improving quality of service running on the terminal device and user experience of the service. Alternatively, the terminal device deactivates the delay status report, to avoid frequently sending the delay status report to an access network element in a network congestion case, to avoid network congestion aggravation, thereby improving quality of service run on the terminal device and user experience of the service.
