Abstract

Embodiments of this application provide a method for determining a paging mode and a terminal device, and relate to the field of communication technologies. The method includes: A first network device sends first indication information to a terminal device. The first indication information indicates a first paging mode supported by the first network device. The second network device sends second indication information to the terminal device. The second indication information indicates a second paging mode supported by the second network device. A core network device determines a third paging mode corresponding to the terminal device, and sends a first paging message to the first network device. The first paging message includes the third paging mode corresponding to the terminal device. The first network device sends a second paging message to the second network device. The second paging message includes the third paging mode corresponding to the terminal device. The terminal device, the first network device, and the second network device all determine a target paging mode. In this way, it can be ensured that the terminal device and the network devices send and receive paging based on a same procedure.
