Abstract

Disclosed are a swage apparatus, which is capable of preventing the occurrence of a scratch defect caused by excessive pressure applied to an opening portion of a battery housing during a swage process, and a method of determining an error in the swage process. A swage apparatus according to an embodiment of the present disclosure performs a swage process of compressing an opening portion of a cylindrical battery housing in which an electrode assembly is accommodated, and the swage apparatus includes a swage module including a housing and a pressing operation part and a pressing part provided in the housing, the swage module being configured to compress the opening portion of the battery housing by operating the pressing operation part between a pressure-releasing position and a pressing position in an operation direction parallel to a central axis of the battery housing, and operating the pressing part by the pressing operation part, a load measurement part installed in the housing and configured to measure a load applied in the operation direction by the pressing operation part at the pressing position, and a swage process error determination part configured to determine a swage process error on the basis of a load measurement value applied in the operation direction by the pressing operation part.
