Abstract

A welding system (100) comprises: power conversion circuitry (110) configured to convert input power to welding power and to output the welding power to a weld circuit; and control circuitry (112) configured to: control the power conversion circuitry (110) to output the welding power according to one or more first pulse cycles at least by outputting the welding power in a voltage-controlled mode according to one or more first target voltages during at least a portion of the one or more first pulse cycles; determine a second target voltage based on one or more measured currents and a current range; and control the power conversion circuitry (110) to output the welding power according to a second pulse cycle at least by outputting the welding power in the voltage-controlled mode according to the second target voltage during at least a portion of the second pulse cycle.
