Abstract

An apparatus comprises a sensor readout circuit (110, 134) receiving a conditioned analogue sensor signal (106, 108) comprising a measurement offset and having a first cycle of a first duration (501). A diagnostic signal circuit (116) comprises a signal generator (204) coupled to an amplitude modulator (202) to modulate an analogue diagnostic signal (504) from the signal generator. The sensor readout circuit amplifies and combines the sensor and modulated diagnostic signals (504) to provide a digital output signal (138) comprising representations of: the combination of the amplified sensor signal and the amplified modulated diagnostic signal, an amplification offset, and the measurement offset. A signal extractor (136) processes the digital output signal and provides separately offset-less digital representations of the amplified sensor signal and the diagnostic signal in amplified form. The amplitude modulator alternates polarities of the diagnostic signal so that the modulated diagnostic signal has a second cycle of a second duration (518) that is an even numbered multiple of the first duration.
