Abstract
A secondary battery having a degassing space formed inside a battery can, the battery can accommodating an electrode assembly. Using one or more gas guide parts formed inside the battery can, the secondary battery prevents the expansion of an accident by lowering pressure and discharging of gas inside the battery can, even when the electrode assembly expands due to an event, such as a fire or the like. The degassing space that accommodates the electrode assembly opens outward, the electrode assembly can be accommodated in the battery can, and a cap assembly can be mounted on the battery can while in contact with the electrode assembly. The degassing space also has a gas vent part, and the one or more gas guide parts guide gas generated in the battery can toward the gas vent part, the one or more gas guides located on an inner surface of the battery can.
