Abstract

Disclosed is a secondary battery that prevents heat of a battery cell from being transferred to the surroundings thereof if an event occurs in the battery cell, wherein the secondary battery includes an electrode assembly including a first electrode plate and a second electrode plate, each of the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate having an electrode uncoated portion protruding from at least one side thereof, a case configured to receive the electrode assembly, the case having an opening formed in a lower end thereof, a cap assembly formed an one surface of the case, the cap assembly being configured to seal the case, the cap assembly including an electrode terminal electrically connected to the electrode uncoated portion, and a sealing plate coupled along the perimeter of the opening formed in the lower end of the case.
