Abstract

To provide a workpiece gripping device capable of highly reliably and efficiently gripping a workpiece even when the workpiece has a three-dimensional shape.A workpiece gripping device configured to grip a workpiece includes a frame-shaped support portion, a flexible and hermetically sealed hollow bag body attached to one surface of the frame-shaped support portion and accommodating, inside the hollow bag body, a material the state of which changes due to a jamming transition, an electrostatic attraction means provided on a contact surface of the hollow bag body with the workpiece and configured to electrostatically attract the workpiece, and a shape maintaining means configured to deform and maintain the shape of the hollow bag body in conformity with the shape of the workpiece, the frame-shaped support portion and the hollow bag body each have at least a non-contact region where the frame-shaped support portion and the hollow bag body are not in contact with each other, the hollow bag body is attached to one surface of the frame-shaped support portion in such a manner that, and during use, the workpiece is pressed against the contact surface of the hollow bag body with the workpiece and is gripped and attracted by utilizing shape maintaining due to the jamming transition and the electrostatic attraction.
