Abstract
Provided is at least one of a sintered body of zirconia and a method for producing the same; the sintered body exhibits a red color mainly in reflected light, with the red color being based on the coloring of trivalent cerium, and the sintered body exhibits a bright red color under daylight. A sintered body of zirconia, the sintered body containing cerium, aluminum, yttrium and a toning element, wherein a content of the cerium, calculated as CeO<sub>2</sub>, is 1.5 mol% or greater and 6.0 mol% or less, a content of the aluminum, calculated as Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, is 0.05 mol% or greater and 4.0 mol% or less, a content of the yttrium, calculated as Y<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, is 2.0 mol% or greater and 6.0 mol% or less, a content of the toning additive element, calculated as an oxide, is greater than 0 mol% and 4.0 mol% or less, the cerium includes trivalent cerium (Ce<sup>3+</sup>), the toning element is at least one of alkaline earth metal elements and rare earth elements other than yttrium or cerium, and a ratio of an ionic radius of the toning element to an ionic radius of tetravalent zirconium (Zr<sup>4+</sup>) is greater than 1.00 and 1.60 or less.
