Abstract

To provide a mechanical seal that is capable of stabilizing surface pressure.One seal ring 10 and a case 20 are in contact with each other in an axial direction. A gasket 30 has a radial-direction extending portion 32 located between the one seal ring 10 and the case 20 in the axial direction. The radial-direction extending portion 32 is disposed in a recessed portion 14 that is formed so as to be recessed in the axial direction from at least one of the one seal ring 10 and the case 20. An axial gap Al is formed between the radial-direction extending portion 32 and at least one of the one seal ring 10 and the case 20.
