Abstract

A wearable apparatus is provided comprising a wearable IMU configured to measure a user, a mounting component, a controller comprising a processing core, at least one memory including computer program code; the at least one memory and the computer program code being configured to, with the at least one processing core, cause the apparatus at least to: receive data from the wearable IMU, the data comprising movement information related to a user movement, the user movement comprising a relative motion between the user's thumb and a finger of the user, wherein during at least part of the movement the surface of the thumb contacts the surface of the finger, classify, using a gesture classifier and based at least in part on the movement information, the movement as a candidate gesture, wherein the candidate gesture is at least one of: a left directional movement, a right directional movement, a up directional movement, or a down directional movement, and output the classified candidate gesture.
