Abstract

Provided is an insulating coating composition, an insulating layer, and a rechargeable lithium battery including the insulating layer. An insulating coating composition includes a boehmite particle and a binder, wherein the boehmite particle has a plate-like structure extending in a first direction and a second direction that crosses the first direction, the boehmite particle has a first width in the first direction, a second width in the second direction, and a thickness in a third direction perpendicular to the first direction and the second direction, a ratio of the thickness to the first width is about 0.8 or less, and a ratio of the thickness to the second width is about 0.8 or less.
