Abstract

An electrolyte for a rechargeable lithium battery, according to embodiments of the present disclosure, comprises: a lithium salt; an organic solvent; and a fluorine-based additive of a specific chemical formula. The rechargeable lithium battery comprises: an electrode assembly which comprises a positive electrode comprising a lithium-transition metal oxide having a lithium molar ratio of 1.1 or more, and a negative electrode facing the positive electrode; and an electrolyte which is impregnated in the electrode assembly and comprises a fluorine-based additive of a specific chemical formula. Through the fluorine-based additive, electrolyte side reactions can be prevented, and the high-voltage charging stability and high-temperature lifespan characteristics of a positive electrode active material can be improved.
