Abstract

A secondary battery includes a can including a bottom portion and a side portion extending from the bottom portion, an electrode assembly accommodated in the can, a cap assembly coupled to the side portion, and a gasket interposed between the side portion and the cap assembly. The side portion includes a beading portion bent inward between the cap assembly and the electrode assembly, and a crimping portion bent inward at an opening-side end of the side portion. A thickness of an upper region of the side portion above the beading portion is less than a thickness of a lower region of the side portion below the beading portion. The thickness of the upper region of the side portion above the beading portion is less than a thickness of the beading portion.
