Abstract

A vibration actuator including a vibrating body including an elastic body and an electromechanical energy conversion element, and a contact body configured to contact the elastic body, the actuator being a vibration driving apparatus wherein the vibrating body and the contact body are configured to move relatively in a predetermined moving direction due to vibration of the vibrating body, wherein the vibration includes a first vibration component generated in the vibrating body by a voltage applied to the electromechanical energy conversion element, and a second vibration component occurring on the vibrating body due to contact of the contact body and the elastic body, and wherein a signal corresponding to the second vibration component is detected, and a relative speed between the vibrating body and the contact body is detected based on the signal.
