Abstract

In various implementations, methods and devices are disclosed that indicate to the decoder a picture dimension to be used for the film grain synthesis, the picture dimension persisting for the coded video sequence (or for the coded layer video sequence) to which the FGC SEI message(s) is(are) associated. For instance, in one embodiment, a method of video decoding or rendering is disclosed that comprises obtaining a film grain picture dimension at which a film grain synthesis should be applied; obtaining a picture of a video sequence, the picture having a picture dimension; upon determining that the film grain picture dimension is different from the picture dimension, resampling the picture to the film grain picture dimension; and applying film grain synthesis to the resampled picture.
