Abstract
A detection system (200) for detection of an agricultural characteristic during a performance of an agricultural operation by an agricultural machine (100) is disclosed. The detection system (200) comprising: an implement configured for performance of the agricultural operation; a point cloud sensor (210) coupled to the agricultural machine (100), the point cloud sensor (210) configured for receipt, during the performance of the agricultural operation, a captured information corresponding to the agricultural characteristic, the captured information comprising information captured by the point cloud sensor (210) in a near infrared light spectrum or a short wavelength infrared light spectrum; at least one processor (204); and a memory (206) coupled with the processor (204), the memory (206) including instructions that when executed by the processor (204) cause the processor (204) to: determine, from the captured information, a reflectance value; determine, using at least the reflectance value, an object represented by the captured information; and determine, using at least the captured information, at least one of a location of the object, a characteristic of the object, and whether the object or the agricultural operation satisfies a predetermined threshold. Furthermore, a method (700) for detecting an agricultural characteristic with such detection system (200) is disclosed.
