Abstract
Compounds and berberine compositions containing such compounds that are useful for reducing nicotine dependency. Methods for administering the berberine compositions are also disclosed. The compounds may have a structure according to Formula (I). In Formula (I) R<sub>1</sub>, R<sub>2</sub>, R<sub>3</sub>, R<sub>4</sub>, and R<sub>5</sub> are independently H or D; R<sub>6</sub> and R<sub>7</sub> are independently hydrogen, deuterium, halogen, C<sub>4</sub> to C<sub>8</sub> unsubstituted aryl, C<sub>4</sub> to C<sub>8</sub> substituted aryl, C<sub>2</sub> to C<sub>6</sub> unsubstituted heterocycle, C<sub>2</sub> to C<sub>6</sub> substituted heterocycle, C<sub>1</sub> to C<sub>6</sub> unsubstituted alkyl, C<sub>1</sub> to C<sub>6</sub> substituted alkyl, C<sub>3</sub>-C<sub>10</sub> unsubstituted cycloalkyl, C<sub>3</sub>-C<sub>10</sub> substituted cycloalkyl, or R<sub>6</sub> and R<sub>7</sub> are taken together as =O or =S; and R<sub>8</sub> and R<sub>9</sub> are independently selected from a group consisting of methyl, CHF<sub>2</sub>, and CF<sub>3</sub>.
