Abstract

An airport rescue fire fighting vehicle includes a chassis, a front axle and a rear axle, an engine, an energy storage device, a water tank, a water turret, an electromagnetic device configured to drive the front axle or the rear axle, with the electromagnetic device including a plurality of electric motors coupled together by a first geartrain, a pump system configured to pump water from the water tank to the water turret, a first clutch coupled to the electromagnetic device, a second clutch coupled to the pump system, a third clutch coupled to the engine, and a second geartrain positioned between the first clutch, the second clutch, and the third clutch. The pump system is selectively mechanically coupled to the electromagnetic device such that the electromagnetic device can back-drive the pump system when the first clutch and the second clutch are engaged, and the third clutch is disengaged.
