Abstract

A cathode active material for a secondary battery includes a lithium metal oxide particle which contains nickel and cobalt and has a single particle structure. A content of cobalt increases in a direction from a particle center to a particle surface in at least a portion of a region between the particle center and the particle surface. The content of cobalt is in a range from 3 mol% to 20 mol%, and a content of nickel is in a range from 60 mol% to 90 mol% among elements of the lithium metal oxide particle excluding lithium and oxygen.
