Abstract

The present invention aims to provide a cellulose powder that can minimize an amount of nitrosamines generated when used as a raw material for pharmaceuticals, and a method for producing the same. The present invention also provides a cellulose powder having a nitrate ion content of 1.00 ppm or less and a sulfur content of 30.0 ppm or less, and a method for producing the cellulose powder by hydrolyzing, washing, and spray-drying a natural cellulosic material, wherein 1) the natural cellulosic material has a nitrite ion content of 0.010 ppm or less, a sulfur ion content of 30.0 ppm or less, and a nitrate ion content of 5.0 ppm or less, or 3) the spray-drying is carried out in a gas having a nitrogen dioxide content of 0.05 ppm or less or a nitrogen trioxide content of 0.05 ppm or less.
