Abstract

In a method for identification of agile radar emitter types a database (1) with emitter-specific transition models (2) is provided, each transition model (2) corresponding to a different known radar emitter type and being created to predict, based on a signal representation input to the model, either a next signal representation (5) which has the highest probability to follow the input signal representation in a signal sequence emitted by the corresponding radar emitter type or a probability distribution which gives different probabilities to different signal representations which might follow the input signal representation in a signal sequence emitted by the corresponding known radar emitter type of the model. After selecting several transition models (2) of the database (1) and extracting consecutive signal representations (4) from a received signal sequence (3) of a radar emitter type to be identified, one of the selected transition models (2) which best predicts the extracted signal representations (4) is iteratively determined using a likelihood function. The most likely model is extracted in a separate, independent step.
