Abstract

An object detection device includes: an acquisition unit that acquires distance information indicating a distance from a transmission-reception unit mounted on a vehicle to an object by performing communication with the transmission-reception unit, based on a time until a sound wave transmitted from the transmission-reception unit is reflected by the object and returns; a communication interruption setting unit that sets an interruption timing at which communication processing between the transmission-reception unit and the acquisition unit is temporarily interrupted based on at least one of a relationship between a detection setting distance in a detection scene of the object and communication noise due to the communication and a relationship between road surface noise determined by a mounting height of the transmission-reception unit from a road surface and the communication noise; and a communication resumption setting unit that enables the communication processing to be resumed after a predetermined interruption period has elapsed since the interruption of the communication processing or after an interruption period determined based on previously acquired distance information to the object has elapsed.
