Abstract

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, generating, by a processing system including a processor, an error estimate based on information from a carrier phase recovery system that digitally recovers a carrier phase associated with a signal, deriving, by the processing system, filter coefficients based on the error estimate, and using, by the processing system, the filter coefficients to perform EEPN compensation relating to the signal, wherein a correlation time of at least one of the filter coefficients is substantially equal to a relative delay associated with digital compensation of chromatic dispersion relating to the signal. Other embodiments are disclosed.
