Abstract

The invention relates to a hot-wire cutting apparatus (1) for cutting a thermoplastic workpiece (W) such as a polystyrene foam block. The hot-wire cutting apparatus (1) comprises a support structure (10), a cutting head (20) arranged to protrude from the support structure (10) and comprising a first wire holder (22) adapted for attachment of a first end (32) of a wire (30) and a second wire holder (24) adapted for attachment of a second end (34) of the wire (30). The hot-wire cutting apparatus (1) comprises a cutting head motor (12) for moving the cutting head (20) along the support structure (10), and a holder motor (26) for moving at least one of said wire holders (22, 24) along the cutting head (20). The hot-wire cutting apparatus (1) is configured to displace at least one of the first or second wire holders (22, 24) towards the other to facilitate an attachment of the wire (30).
