Abstract

The invention relates to an air dryer (1) for a pneumatic system (2) of a commercial vehicle (3), comprisingan dryer inlet (1a) to be connected to a compressor (4) for receiving compressed air (9) in a supply mode,an dryer cartridge (16), an overflow charging valve (15), a regeneration valve (22) for connecting said dryer cartridge inlet (16a) to said discharge port (1e) in a regeneration mode,and a regeneration path (26) extending between said regeneration port (1c) and said dryer cartridge outlet (16b),wherein a pressure release valve device (12) is provided between said dryer inlet (1a) and said overflow charging valve (15), said pressure release valve device (12) comprising a first position for passing compressed air (9) from a dryer inlet (1a) to said overflow charging valve (15) in said supply mode (I) and a second position for connecting said dryer inlet (1a) to a discharge port (1e) in a feeding line venting mode.
