Abstract

A system for detecting shaft shear comprises a gas turbine engine (102) including at least one turbine (114, 118) configured to drive a fan (108) using a driveshaft (116, 120). A plurality of frangible plugs (104) is located downstream of the at least one turbine (114, 118) of the gas turbine engine (102). The plurality of frangible plugs (104) is configured to provide an indication of shearing of the driveshaft (116, 120) responsive to breakage of at least a portion of the plurality of frangible plugs (104) caused by impact of the at least one turbine (114, 118) with the portion of the plurality of frangible plugs (104).
