Abstract

A method of controlling the operation of a wind turbine is provided. The wind turbine (100) comprises a wind turbine rotor (120) with one or more rotor blades and a control system (10) that operates at least one load reduction pitch control function (40, 50) configured to adjust a blade pitch angle to reduce a blade load. The method comprises monitoring an operating parameter of the wind turbine (100) using a blade load signal; generating, by the load reduction pitch control function (40, 50), a pitch adjustment output based on the monitored operating parameter; and determining if the operating parameter and/or the pitch adjustment output fulfills a predetermined criterion. If the predetermined criterion is fulfilled, an actual pitch adjustment is applied to one or more of the rotor blades (121, 122, 123). The operating parameter and/or the pitch adjustment output is further filtered by a filter (43, 53) having a low pass response.
